As I am sitting here writing this blog post, Sophie is counting down the weeks until her second daughter is due to be born. When she, and her three year old daughter Izzy, had their photo shoot last week, it was just 5 weeks left to go.
I was really looking forward to Sophie’s maternity photo shoot for a couple of reasons. I have known Sophie since I had my twins, and she had Izzy. We met at a Mum and Baby group and it’s been really nice that we’ve stayed friends as our girls have grown up. When Izzy was tiny I photographed a ‘woodland fairy’ themed session for her. So it was going to be nice getting to photograph Izzy again now that she was so much bigger.
The second reason I was really excited about this photo shoot, was that I had been hoping to hold a maternity session at this pretty little location for quite a while. It’s a little blue door in a wall surrounded by ivy. It doesn’t look like it’s been opened in years and makes me imagine all sorts of secrets could be behind the door. I like to think it’s the door to a beautiful secret garden full of fun and adventures. I thought this would be the perfect location for a maternity shoot as standing outside the door to the secret garden, wanting to know what’s inside is like pregnancy – waiting for all the fun and adventures to begin when the beautiful baby arrives.
We had a fun spring time photo shoot at the ‘Secret Garden’ location with some freshly picked daffodils to add a pop of colour alongside the blue of the door. We then continued the session indoors for some ‘bump’ poses and few cups of tea and a good old gossip too. Here is a selection of my favourite photographs from this fun-filled session.
